About the Virtual Museum of Labrador
The Labrador Virtual Museum is an online showcase of Labrador's unique heritage and culture. Coordination and development of the website was completed in March 2004 as part of the SmartLabrador Initiative, Newfoundland and Labrador's Smart Community Demonstration Project. The Labrador Virtual Museum is one of a suite of online services developed by the SmartLabrador Initiative to facilitate the presentation of Labrador information, heritage and culture to the world via the internet.

SmartLabrador's Development Team for the Labrador Virtual Museum consisted of:

  • Douglas Robbins, Technologist, SmartLabrador Initiative
  • Cynthia Colosimo, Coordinator of Smart Services and Communications, SmartLabrador Initiative
  • Amanda Ayles, Web developer, AmandaMarks Business Solutions
  • David Yetman

Content for the website has been donated to the project through the generous contributions of many Labradorians and outside experts. Together we have combined research, collections of images and information about Labrador people, heritage, culture and way of life to create a comprehensive online Labrador Museum.

We have also had the generous help of many outside individuals and experts that have taken the time to contribute their knowledge and enrich the content of this site. By working together we have been able to offer a unique and detailed look into this land we call Labrador. The list of content contributors and photo credits can be found here:

As part of the content development for the project, SmartLabrador offered funding to Labrador Museums and heritage groups to develop their own websites through a "Regional Collections Program". The museum and heritage websites that were developed through this program are:

  • Gateway Labrador Website
  • Labrador Heritage Museum
  • Labrador Institute Photo Album
  • Labrador Straits Museum
  • Point Amour Lighthouse Website
  • Port Hope Simpson CAP Site Virtual Museum
  • Red Bay Heritage Group Website
  • White Elephant Museum

Links to these websites can be found in the Museum and Heritage Websites section of the Labrador Virtual Museum.

Other heritage and museum websites from Labrador will be linked to that section as they become available. The Labrador Virtual Museum has been developed so that it will be easy to add information, topics and links as they become available.
